Im Libanon erkennt die Verfassung 18 Religionsgemeinschaft an. Teilweise waren diese über 15 Jahre in einen blutigen Bürgerkrieg verwickelt. Zur nicht immer positiv erlebten Vielfalt der Religionen kommen noch Einflussnahmen von außerhalb des Landes und eineinhalb Millionen Flüchtlinge. Dabei haben das Land und seine Einwohner mit immer größer werdenden Schwierigkeiten zu kämpfen.
Ziad Fahed ist katholischer Theologe und Professor für Religious Studies. Vor 2010 gründete er die Organisation “Dialogue for Life and Reconciliation” im Libanon, die sich auf verschiedenen Ebenen für ein gutes Zusammenleben der Angehörigen der verschiedenen Religionen im Libanon einsetzt. Er glaubt daran, dass religiöse Akteure eine wichtige Rolle bei der Konfliktbewältigung und Friedenskonsolidierung spielen können – insbesondere in Ländern wie dem Libanon, in denen die Religion als integraler Bestandteil der Gesellschaftsstruktur angesehen wird. Dazu ist es notwendig, dass der “Dialog des Lebens” von einem “Dialog der Taten” begleitet wird: So schuf Fahed mit seinen Mitstreitern ein Netzwerk religiöser Führer und Laien, an dem sich alle Beteiligten gemeinsam für bessere soziale, wirtschaftliche, politische und humanitäre Bedingungen einsetzen – und zwar für alle Menschen unabhängig von ihrem Geschlecht, ihrer Rasse, ihrer
ethnischen Zugehörigkeit oder ihrer Religion. Dafür schuf die Organisation Orte und Strukturen physischer Begegnung und nachhaltiger Zusammenarbeit, die seit nunmehr über 10 Jahren ein großes Netzwerk an Multiplikatoren im ganzen Libanon ausgebildet hat. Für sein Engagement wurde Fahed 2014 von der University of Philadelphia als “Outstanding Leader in Interreligious Dialogue” geehrt.
In seinem Vortrag wird Fahed von nachahmenswerten Erfahrungen berichten und von Aha-Erlebnissen, und auch von Enttäuschungen und Fehlern, aus denen andere lernen können. Dabei reflektiert der promovierte Theologe auch immer die theoretischen Grundlagen seines Tuns.

Er war 2006 Fulbright Scholar zum Thema „Religious Pluralism“ an der Universität von Santa Barbara (US) und nochmals 2008 zum Thema „Interreligious“ and Temple University (US). Er ist Gründer und Direktor von “Dialogue for Life and Reconciliation” und Beiratsmitglied im KAAD Libanon und bei World Vision Libanon. Seit 2021 ist er Professor Notre Dame University – Louaize (Libanon)

In Lebanon, the constitution recognizes 18 religious communities. Some of them were involved in a bloody civil war for more than 15 years. In addition to the diversity of religions, which is not always experienced positively, there are also influences from outside the country and one and a half million refugees. At the same time, the country and its inhabitants have to cope with ever-increasing difficulties.
Ziad Fahed is a Catholic theologian and professor of Religious Studies. Before 2010, he founded the organization “Dialogue for Life and Reconciliation” in Lebanon, which works on various levels for a good coexistence of members of the different religions in Lebanon. He believes that religious actors can play an important role in conflict resolution and peacebuilding – especially in countries like Lebanon where religion is seen as an integral part of the social structure. For this, it is necessary that the “dialogue of life” is accompanied by a “dialogue of deeds”: Thus, Fahed and his comrades-in-arms created a network of religious leaders and lay people in which all participants work together for better social, economic, political and humanitarian conditions – for all people regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity or religion. To this end, the organization created places and structures of physical encounter and sustainable cooperation, which has now trained a large network of multipliers throughout Lebanon for over 10 years. In 2014, Fahed was honored by the University of Philadelphia for his commitment as an “Outstanding Leader in Interreligious Dialogue”.
In his lecture, Fahed will talk about experiences worth emulating and about Aha-moments, as well as disappointments and mistakes from which others can learn. In doing so, the theologian Ziad Fahed always reflects on the theoretical basis of his work.
